1936 Motorist's Guide Rocky Mountain National Park and Ceramic Commemorative Mug - Very Good Condition

Map dimensions: 9-13/16" T x 5-1/8" W x 1/8" T folded; 28-3/4" x 24-5/8" open flat

I love old stuff… especially maps. Cartographers - the good people that would draw maps by hand - were story tellers, in that they provided places, direction and visual cues around which to build a tale. Add yourself or imaginary characters, and all you need is a plot for an bedtime story or an instant classic. Your next New York Times Best Seller or Book of the Month thriller takes place in the Rocky Mountain National Park, circa 1936… at a time when communication and rescue efforts were limited, bear attacks went unreported to the media, and when Winter gear was little more than wool clothing and a goofy looking cap. North Face products were not available, satellite phones weren't even thought of, and search teams were not sent out to look for victims of avalanches. You had to be tough and ready to face the elements. Lesser men perished in an instant.

You might not have ever thought of a map in such a way before, eh? Well now you have, and this is just the thing you need to change your whole life. The Motorist's Guide to the Rocky Mountain National Park (1936) is a beautiful piece of art. It has lovely color illustrations by JJ Black, a plethora of facts and figures, and fine details to help you navigate and survive the wilderness. This map is in very good condition for being 75 years old, has no tears and only slight discoloration in some areas. If treated properly, this geological gem should be enjoyed by generations to come. It would be an excellent addition to any map collection or could be featured prominently as the centerpiece of a wall display. It has been stored in a safe, clean environment, away from heat and harsh light. And wait - it gets better.

Included with the purchase of this excellent ephemera is an official Rocky Mountain National Park mug. This is old school cool, with great coloring, embossed flowers around the base, and detailed illustrations - possibly even by JJ Black, the same artist that provided sketches for the map. There are two blemishes - minor chips on the rim - but otherwise this mug is beautiful and ready for coffee, whiskey or whatever you please. This isn't some modern souvenir found in the Denver airport gift shop. This mug has survived long treks across the range, the raging rapids of the Colorado River, and countless backwoods blizzards. Real men have drank from this cup. It's now your turn to fill it and start writing your story.

Mug dimensions: 4" Tall x 3-5/16" Base x 2-7/8" Opening; yellow ochre with brown stripes
