Colorful, iridescent and rare Ammolite is presented in a handmade reclaimed sterling silver bezel setting with a geometric top handmade from reclaimed sterling silver wire. The bezel setting and geometric top is completely handmade by myself and showcases this stunning piece of Ammolite. The play of color in this piece of Ammolite displays various tones of orange, red, gold and green and will appear to change depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The pendant measures approximately 2” (5cm) in length x 1/2” (1.3cm) in width. The Ammolite measures approximately 1 1/4" (3.0cm) in length x 1/2" (1.3cm) in width. Included with this pendant is a sterling silver cable link style chain that measures approximately 18” (45cm) in length that closes with a spring ring style clasp.

Ammolite is mined only in Alberta, Canada, not far from where I live. It was recognized by the International Colored Gemstone Commission (ICGC) in 1981 as a new organic gemstone and is also considered the rarest gemstone in the world. Ammolite is the mineralized remains of an ammonite, a creature that swam the oceans from the Paleozoic to the end of the Cretaceous era 65 to 70 million years ago. Fossilized ammonites are found all over the world, but supplies of the colorful iridescent gem quality Ammolite are found ONLY in southern Alberta, Canada, and only about 5% of this material is considered gemstone material.

Ammolite was discovered by the native Indian Blackfoot tribe and is still highly regarded by them to ward off evil spirits. Students of Feng Shui believe that Ammolite absorbed the knowledge of the universe. The colors of Ammolite represent the harmonious balance of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood.
