> > > > > > > > > ABOUT OUR NATURAL HEMP LINEN FABRIC < < <

We use natural 100% hemp linen fabric that has not been bleached or dyed. No harmful chemicals against your skin.

The natural color of the hemp varies crop to crop. Usually it is a light brown or dark tan with a green cast to it. With a few washings the green eventually fades away and the fibers become lighter, becoming tan or a blonde color.

Our Hemp Linen has light slubbing in it. Slubs are little kinks in the fiber that make a little bump in the weave, it is common in natural fibers and is considered part of the desired natural look of the fabric.

We machine wash and machine dry our hemp linen 3 times to soften the fibers and to pre-shrink it before making our heating pads.

Your Hemp Heating Pad will grow softer with time and repeated washing, but it will retain its strength. I use this hemp fabric for many projects and the only thing that I have seen that has been able to wear it out is a 140 pound dog. I covered his bed with it and after two years of constant use he finally scratched a hole in it with his giant bear-like claws.

Hemp linen ages beautifully. Anyone lucky enough to own antique hemp linen knows what I am talking about. It grows softer and softer with age, eventually developing an almost suede like feel. But it retains a bounce or spring to the fibers that is unique to linen.

It is a little known fact that flax or hemp are the only fibers used in making a true linen. "Linen" made of any other fiber is not real linen.

Usually when a person refers to a linen fabric they are talking about flax linen. However, in times past, hemp was easier to produce then flax and many antique pieces of linen, thought to be flax linen, are actually Hemp linen, as it is almost impossible to tell apart once woven into fabric.

MORE ABOUT HEMP, Hemp is naturally hypo-allergenic and mildew resistant. The fibers are naturally stain resistant and are much stronger then cotton. Hemp grows without the use of herbicides or pesticides and requires very little fertilizer. Unlike cotton, hemp is sustainable. It can grow in a wide range of climates, including all 50 states. Hemp grows fast and will produce multiple crops per year.

Hemp has enormous potential to become a major natural resource that would benefit both the economy and our environment. Currently the United states is the only developed nation the does not allow the farming of industrial hemp.

Additional policies

To WARM our HEATING PADs you will need a microwave with a turntable that is at least 10 inches wide.
Roll or fold your Hemp Heat Pad and place in microwave, being sure it can rotate freely.
How long it takes to heat your pad varies according to

what kind of filler you use
how full you fill it
how warm you want it
the wattage of your microwave oven

So it is important that you experiment to find out how long to heat your heat pad in your microwave.
Microwave for 30 seconds and check to see how warm it is. If it needs to be warmer, keep microwaving for 30 seconds at a time until you reach the desired temperature.
Care needs to be taken that you do not over heat your Hemp heating pad. Anything that is microwaved for to long can burn and our heat pads are no exception. Please see out return policy above,

DO I HAVE TO USE A MICROWAVE? No, an oven works just fine. Heat oven to 300 degrees and then turn it OFF. Place heat pad in a baking pan or cookie sheet and spread it out flat.
Place in oven for about 30 minutes. You can experiment a little with the time to get it just right, but be sure to always have the OVEN OFF before you put the heat pad in.

FOR A COLD PACK simply place your Hemp Heat Pad in a plastic bag and store in freezer, ready to use whenever you need it.

WASHING our heating pads is easy. Open the hook and loop seal and pour out all of the filler. It helps to take it outside to shake out that last little bit. Then close the seal and machine wash in warm or hot water and machine dry on warm or hot.
Hemp becomes softer with age and repeated washing until it takes on an almost suede like feel with a bounce to the fibers. You may wish to speed up this process by washing and drying it multiple times. There is a significant difference in the texture after about 8-12 cycles in the washer AND dryer.
