14" wide at the waist (35.56 cm)

This piece is a variation on a traditional ceremonial vest a child would wear. The metal (base) pieces are stamped and cut out, all completely done by hand and are considered to be protective against the evil eye. Front and back are heavily adorned. One side has a lapis lazuli heart as a central element and the other has a pendant made out of a large coin.

Fabrics are a variety of quality and value, salvaged from other pieces: velvet, corduroy, ikat and cotton.

Big rough stitches on the inside show where objects have been sewn on the front and back. Although the neckline and sides are turned in nicely, the bottom remains unfinished.

This looks like it is a piece that has been constructed from remnants for the tourist trade. It does not have great ethnographic value, yet the elements individually do add up.
