Item details

glass, onyx, silk, sterling silver

Kumihimo is the Japanese form of braid making. The most prominent historical use of the cords was by samurai as both a functional and decorative way to lace their and their horses' armor. Kumihimo cords are now used as ties on jackets and obijimes, which are used for tying on an obi or kimono sash. They also make beautiful necklaces.

This beautiful 8 cord kumihimo necklace is braided on silk with purple iris and black seed beads. The braided section is attached to shiny oval onyx and lavender aurora borealis seed beads and features a wire wrapped matte onyx pendant on a silver sliding bail. The clasp has an onyx stone mounted in sterling silver. The findings are sterling silver and the necklace is 21 inches long.
