I think the best art is created by Mother Nature and the Mountain Lion is one of her finest creations. Needle Felted Soft Sculptures are unique gifts or a remarkable addition to a collection. The treasures we receive mark an occasion as special. So make a gift of this wool treasure. Remember to add yourself to the list. Nothing makes me happier then the gifts I give to myself. Makes up for all the mundane things life requires.

A solitary creature, Mt. Lions are fierce hunters. They often hide their kill for a later meal. They have tremendous power and can leap great distances. As the mother teaches her young to hunt, she can keep them with her for as long as two years. Their numbers are rapidly decreasing in the wild.

My sculpture is all wool over a wire armature for stability. There are no artificial parts used. It is stated "the eyes are the windows to the soul" and I just can't get that look with plastic or glass parts. When my husband first saw this sculpture his comment was "his eyes have an evil look" and since this is a fierce predator that is the look I was aiming for. You can see the carnivore in his eyes. Not a cat I would want to meet close up in the wild.

This Mountain Lion measures 7 1/4 inches from the tip of the nose to the end of the hind quarters. He stands 4 inches tall at the shoulders and is 2 1/2 inches wide across the chest. The whiskers are horse hair and add to the feline look. I use many different wool fibers in making my sculptures. Some make excellent shading and some add to the realistic look of the coat I want to achieve. I always do a surface finish to ensure the longevity of the piece. I never felt to rock hard but keep the softness you would have in the live animal, so the surface finish is a necessity. My pieces will stand the test of time.
