The finished box is 9.25 inches wide, 7.125 inches deep, and 7.25 inches tall, making it a standout piece that will impress and intrigue. The kit includes everything you need except glue and sandpaper, and the option to customize the lid adds a personal touch. This Mechanical Box is shipped in KIT form (You assemble it). There are about 60 parts in the kit including gears, shafts, lock nuts all precision laser cut from wood. The 6 sides of the box are cut from quarter-inch-thick PureBond Premium birch plywood. The gears are all cut from solid cherry 1/4 inch thick. The one large gear on the front is cut from 1/4 inch solid oak.

The box (when assembled) is 9.25 inches wide, 7.125 inches deep and 7.25 inches tall. (other box kits on Etsy are tiny by comparison)

Unlike other wooden kits on Etsy, I have designed and tested this box to be as easy to assemble as possible. I have given kits to many friends and incorporated their suggestions to make the instructions clearer and the kit easier to assemble, where possible.

The instructions are very detailed and include pictures to make assembly fast and easy.

If you have assembled a model car or plane before, this kit should be very easy for you. If you have not assembled a kit before, take your time. If you encounter any problems, please contact me, and you will be able to produce a very nice mechanical box.

This box is guaranteed to get attention wherever you have it displayed. People will ask where you got it, and when you tell them you built it they will be amazed.

If you follow the instructions and wax the moving parts as instructed, the box will open very smoothly. Something really amazing for a mechanical network of complex wooden gears!

This kit is a great way to spend quality time with your child, grandson, or granddaughter. And when you are done, they will have something they will keep forever.

The kit will require you to provide your own glue and a small amount of sandpaper. You may also want to stain or paint the box before assembly, in which case you would need to provide the stain or paint.

I bought the storage box because I needed something fun to store my stains and tools in and this, with its steam-punk-like theme was perfect. It's not a difficult build and you can use your imagination to decorate it - although its pretty fine the way it is. The top can be made special by using your own design which Allen can make for a nominal fee. Nice build, good materials, an attentive owner and a nice product. And the price was fair - even better now with it on sale.
