The Legend of Raven Stealing the Sun & Bringing Fire to Earth

Long ago when the Earth was new it was shrouded in darkness. The creatures of the Earth suffered as they lived in this cold gloom, without fire and fresh water because the guardian of the sun, moon, stars, fresh water & fire hated the People so much that he kept these things hidden.
The guardian viewed all living things with contempt, except his beautiful daughter whom he loved dearly.
At this time Raven was a handsome young man that could change himself into a snow-white bird. And as a snow-white bird he flew to the guardian's daughter. She was so pleased by Raven;s beauty & song that she invited him into her father's lodge.
Raven immediately saw the sun, moon. stars and fresh water hanging on the sides of the lodge and he knew what he must do. He waited for his chance and when no one was watching he stole all of these things along with a brand of fire and flew out of the lodge through the smoke hole.
As soon as Raven made good his escape, he hung the sun high in the sky. Sun gave so much light that Raven was able to fly far out to an island in the middle of the ocean. After the sun set, Raven placed the moon up in the sky and scattered the stars throughout the heavens. By this new light he kept flying, carrying the fresh water and brand of fire he had stolen with him.
He flew back over the land & dropped the water to the ground where it became the source of all fresh-water streams and lakes in the world.
Raven flew on, holding the fire brand in his bill as smoke blew back over his white feathers and turned them black. When his bill caught fire he finally dropped the firebrand & it fell to the rocks below; as it struck the Earth fire went into the rocks - this is why, if you strike two stones together, fire will drop out.
Raven's beautiful voice was damaged by the fire & never returned & his feather's never became white again after they were blackened by the smoke from the firebrand. That is why the Raven is now a black bird with a hoarse call.

Raven is a one of a kind hand built sculpture (molds were neither used nor created during his construction) that I made with air dried clay over a fabric & wire skeleton and then painted using color fast acrylic paint.
He measures approximately 9 inches tall ( including Sun which removable so Raven can be displayed without it if desired) and 7 inches long.
