Dishes & Platter, Copper SIlver Gold, Dollhouse Miniatures 1/12 Scale, Mokume' Gane Clay

This set of six miniature plates and a serving platter are truly one of a kind. They could be used in almost any dollhouse setting, from medieval times to the present. I handcrafted them from polymer clay, using a technique called mokume gane to get the rich color variations of gold, silver, copper and white. The scalloped edges are embellished with gold leaf.

These are one inch scale size. The dishes are 1 1/8" across and the platter is 1 5/8" across.

Mokume' Gane, as used with clay, is based on an ancient Japanese technique that was used to craft fine sword blades. The metal was hammered very thin and folded over upon itself again and again to create many thin layers. With clay, those layers are made up of an assortment of colors. Thin slices are then carved out to expose the colors underneath the top layer.

These are collectable items. Not intended as playthings for children.
