Pink Sapphire gemstone stud earrings set in recycled 14k gold. These light pink Montana sapphires are beautifully cut for lots of sparkle. They are about 3mm rounds (actually a tad bit smaller) which is quite small, perfect for those who like dainty earrings.

These sapphires came from Rock Creek in Montana, and the vast majority of them were cut by the man who collected them. He was a rockhound and hobby collector, and left behind a wealth of beauty when he passed. His collection was sold to a gem dealer from whom I purchased a very large parcel of them. These are American gems, collected from gravel bars and creek beds and cut not 20 miles away....they've never seen the inside of a commercial mining operation or overseas cutting factory.

I have quite a few of these gems, all of them between 3-4mm and almost all in the typical shades of blue-green-gray of Montana sapphires. They may have been heat treated by the cutter to improve clarity. Due to the variation in color and size, each pair of earrings is slightly different, and one of a kind. If you see "the" pair for you, you should probably buy them because while I will be listing others, they are unlikely to be exactly the same.

In pink, I have only this pair and one that is even smaller (closer to 2mm; the gems are not set yet, if you would like the smaller pair set in your choice of metal please contact me)

This is my tiny 3mm size; please take a look at the modeled photo for an idea of how big they are in "real life". More modeled photos at http://www.distinctionjewelry.com/info/lookbook

Please allow around a week (occasionally two) for shipping. Many of my earrings are made to order, and I end up with quite the workload sometimes!

After I got my ears pierced, I went on a buying spree and purchased a ton of cute sparkly little post earrings. About six years later, only two pairs remain. What happened to all the others? They fell apart, peeled, turned green, and suffered other unattractive fates. Glues, plated metals, fake crystal “stones,” cheap enamels….they all degrade sooner rather than later.

Now that I make my own jewelry, I have decided to make stud earrings that are beautiful, high quality, and will stand the test of time. They will cost a little more, but they’ll outlast 10 pairs of cheapies.

Given the high price of gold in the current market, it's tempting to cut costs by using lightweight settings, but I've opted to use heavier, durable gold settings that will last. These are sturdy prong settings, not flimsy “snap-in” settings which hold the stones in prongs so thin you can literally bend them with your fingernail. Nor are they the widely sold "promotional weight" earrings. The backs are solid 14k gold, not gold-filled, rubber, or plated.

There is absolutely no glue or epoxy used in these; soldered construction and stones set using traditional metalsmithing techniques equal lasting durability. If you are paying for gold, you deserve to get a quality product.

Ethical fine jewelry for the discerning client; your buying choices can make you look and feel beautiful while having a positive impact on the world we live in.

About Distinction Jewelry Fair Trade
I am a US broker for quality fair trade gemstones and rough from Kenya, and also offer a variety of fine mineral specimens and rough from other locations around the world including the United States. My fair trade items contain gems that either:

1. I am brokering for small dealers in Kenya or other countries. These gems have been entrusted to me to bring to market for fair prices in the US. When you buy one of these gems, or jewelry containing them, I immediately send 50% of the purchase price of the gem to the dealer. Not some tiny amount of the sale that constitutes a "fair wage" as paid by some so-called fair trade organizations - but an actual 50/50 share.

These stones come straight from small local operations and your purchase will mean a great deal to them. You will be a direct supporter of small, hard-working individual business owners in a country where the average per capita income is under US $800 per year.

2. Were purchased as rough at fair prices from the miner, or from a dealer very close to the source, and cut under my control by individuals or small business employees paid fair wages. For example, I might buy a piece of Oregon blue opal rough from the man who collected it and pried it out of the host rock right here in my state, and send it to a faceting artist here in the US for cutting. As another example, I might purchase a rough aquamarine from the local mining community on the ground in Namibia, bring it home to the US with me, and have it cut.

The actual jewelry making is all done by me, using recycled precious metals. I am unusually involved in the origins of my gemstones and will not sell anything I suspect was produced under unfair trade conditions. The difference in my fair trade section is that I have had enough personal control over the entire process to be *certain* that fair trade principles were respected.

The buying power of my small but successful business goes to support other small businesses in the US and abroad; the trickle-down effect of the money you spend at Distinction Jewelry has a positive impact on many people.

Your purchase will ship within 1-2 weeks; please contact me ahead of time if you need it faster and I'll let you know whether I can meet your deadline or not :) Loose gems are kept in secure storage and I will need to fetch them from the bank before I can get them to you. Jewelry items are usually made to order for you and require a certain amount of lead time before shipping.
