Punch, Vol. CLXXIX. London: “Published at the Office,” 1930. Quarto (8 3/4 “ x 11”). 756 pp. Index. Maroon cloth hardcover; gilt spine title and decoration; black and gilt front cover decoration; blind-stamped back cover. Illustrated title page, as well as numerous black and white illustrations and several glossy pages of full-color cartoons and illustrations.

Very good (slight shelf-rub at spine and board ends; slightly faded spine with a few spots of cover rub; front hinge starting; age-toned paper, as usual). Binding otherwise intact. No marks, contents clean. Color illustrations especially vibrant.

Alternately titled “Punch, or the London Charivari,” comprising editions of Punch from July to December, 1930. Includes humor, political cartoons, pictures, sketches, articles, and book reviews (including, for instance, tongue-in-cheek reviews of P.G. Wodehouse’s _Very Good Jeeves_ , Thomas Wolfe’s first novel, _Look Homeward, Angel_, and the Marx Brothers' film, "Animal Crackers"). The British weekly humor magazine, begun in 1841, is responsible for coining the term “cartoon” and enjoyed long-lasting popularity among the British “drawing room set:” Its fans included members of the middle and upper classes alike, eminent authors, artists, and even Queen Victoria. Fun and continuously amusing cross-section of 1930s culture, style, and satire.
