In Greek mythology, Maenads were female worshippers of Dionysus, the Greek god of mystery, wine and intoxication. The word literally translates as "raving ones". Often the maenads were portrayed as inspired by him into a state of ecstatic frenzy, through a combination of dancing and drunken intoxication. In this state, they would lose all self-control, begin shouting excitedly, engage in uncontrolled sexual behavior, and ritualistically hunt down and tear to pieces animals, and, in myth at least, sometimes men and children, devouring the raw flesh. They were usually pictured as crowned with vine leaves, clothed in fawnskins and carrying the thyrsus, and dancing with the wild abandonment of complete union with primeval nature.

A woodsy combination of organic materials in rich hues. Purple web Jasper, Mykonos cabernet colored clay discs are layered atop green Indonesian glass rondelles and Mykonos forest green colored clay discs. Tumbled Lapis Lazuli and natural bone discs are laced throughout and three carved Mahogany ovals connect the two strands. With a primeval vibe and a forest feel, this wristlet is a powerful piece; too beautiful to be captured by photograph.

Measures an adjustable 7 " 1/2 - 8 ". Convo me if you'd like it to be adjusted.
