Very cool vintage souvenir from the Catskill Mountains in New York.
Abalone shell cave with a tableau inside
of a crouching indian with feather headdress, fringed pants and tomahawk
sitting on a rock with painted green grass.

The classic stereotype movie Indian. Wrong Native American for the area... not Algonquin or Mohegan... but it WAS the 50's so you have to just go with it.

Shell is mounted in a plaster of paris base that's painted with stripes.
Additional shells set along the front.
Back of large shell appears to also be painted.
"Souvenir of Catskill Mts." decal on to edge.

This was originally a lamp and it could be restored as such.
There's an opening at the back of the vertical shell on the side
with a rubber gasket.
This held a fixture for a small "nightlight" type light...
easy to replace.
