Description

This pink moonglow/cats eye necklace and earring set from the Richelieu Satinore collection of the 1940s is entrancing and beautiful. Moonglow or Cats Eye Lucite is a joy to wear, as each individual bead or section seems to glow from within. The moonglow lucite in this set is a bubble gum pink, which changes in intensity when worn against different colors. Richelieu created the lucite for their Satinore collection by a patented process in which they combined lucite with "pearl essence" to create jewelry that nearly glows.

The necklace in this set consists of 34 graduated sized moonglow lucite beads. Each bead is individually knotted on the strand, and all are in excellent condition. The necklace is 17 inches (43.18 cm) long. The bead sizes range from the smallest with a diameter of 0.36 inches (9 mm) to the largest having a diameter of 0.74 inches (19 mm). The clasp of this necklace is rather clever. A small metal tab slides into a bead that is identical to the rest of the strand (please see photo).

The screw-on earrings in this set are made of the same pink moonglow lucite as the necklace. Each earring is made of two petal-like curved lucite forms, which have been joined together at the top using either a glue or resin. The screw-back fastener is positioned directly behind that point. Each earring is 1 inch (26 mm) long, and 0.96 inches (25 mm) wide. The earrings are marked with the word sterling.

The earrings are marked "STERLING", the necklace is unmarked. The lack of signature on the set is expected, as it was originally sold in the 1940s with a fabric ribbon attached bearing the name "Richelieu". I am confident that this is a Richelieu Satinore set based on the original design patent issued in 1942 for the earrings, and several advertisements from 1946-1949 featuring this jewelry. The hidden clasp feature of the necklace, as well as the quality of the bead-work and individual knotting between the beads, confirm that this is Richelieu.

The only sign of wear on this set is some light scratch/scuff marks on the face of one of the earrings. All of the hardware of the set, including the necklace clasp and the screw-backs of the earrings, are in excellent working condition.

This beautiful set is in excellent condition.

Additional policies

All of the vintage items for sale on this site are of course used, and their condition is noted in the description. If you have any questions about any of the vintage items, please contact me prior to purchase. Vintage items cannot be repaired by me once they are sold. As all of the vintage items are unique and irreplaceable, they cannot be returned if they are damaged after they have been delivered. However, the refund policy listed above does of course apply to them, with the aforementioned exceptions.

All of the handmade items in the shop are fully guaranteed. Should any item need repair, please contact me and I will gladly repair it, or if repair is impossible, provide you with a replacement. The handmade items are built to last, and in the case of the cat-toys, are made to withstand the worst an 18lb Maine Coon can throw at them.

Custom orders are possible. I primarily do needlepoint, with a focus on traditional designs.

Some handmade items are meant to be personalized. The degree of personalization possible is detailed in their listing. If you would like one of these items personalized, please contact me before or after purchase. Since they are personalized, shipping may be delayed by a reasonable period of time. Personalized items can be repaired or replaced as needed, but absent of product defect, cannot usually be returned.
