This large canvas sack, weathered and worn, frayed and stained - looks like it once belonged to a pirate or maybe a sorcerer. A grinning skull, two bones, and a heart are painted on one side. From the skull's mouth trails a banner with the foreboding words - EHEU FUGACES LABUNTUR ANNI, latin for "Alas, the fleeting years slip by" (Horace) painted on it. On the other side an alchemist's symbol for money/wealth is painted on a large circular canvas patch. Not a bag that anyone would look inside without first receiving permission!

I created this hobo style bag out of 100% cotton canvas. After cutting the canvas I painted the images on it, then stained, dyed, and washed it to give it age. Here and there the frayed seams are accented with patches of tattered cloth, colored string, and plaid rag strips. Waxed linen thread tied with beads, shells, found objects, and a charm (an Archangel St. Michael medallion) are sewn on each side of the strap. The bag is lined with sturdy black cotton broadcloth.

This bag is quite large. It measures 15" across the widest part of the body and 12" deep at the center. The strap is 2" wide and approximately 36"long. It will hold all the supplies needed to mix that potion or simply your homework, snack, and sweater.
