Beggar beads traditionally come from India. They usually consist of larger tumble polished stone beads that are separated by smaller polished round beads and smaller brass beads.
The stones used are usually, Amethyst (purple), Carnelian (orange), Jasper (red or yellow usually) of some type, Aventurine (green), Quartz (white and crystal), Agate of some type, Bloodstone and a Blackstone (various materials)
They originally were thought to be made as a type of rosary or Mala and since the religious belief is that everyone is a beggar before God that they should be called beggar beads.
The other story is that they are inexpensive beads that were easy to make and it allowed for beggars and children to be able to sell a souvenir to the tourists
Whatever their history they are a truly recognizable art form that is reasonably priced so that you get a beautiful natural stone necklace without breaking your wallet. They also are very good items to have for re-purposing by taking them apart and making bracelets, earrings, and rings and anything else your creative bead mind will allow!
They come in two sizes and I offer both 36 inches and 24 inches complete with a brass threaded barrel clasp. 36 listing is

I owned a large Metaphysically Oriented Jewelry store for 10 years and decided one day I had had enough of the rat race that went with it and walked in and said we are done lets close this place and did so in 24 hours LOL. That was 6 years ago and a lot of inventory was boxed and has been sitting until very recently. As I go through the boxes I am coming across Items that I either Manufactured OR bought because of the quality and value. These items are in limited quantities and I will be posting these items on Etsy so as to make them available at a great price until there are no more. I hope you enjoy them and are able to take care of this opportunity to stretch you purchasing dollars.
