I've had the idea now for over a year, to recreate the form of a slumped glass bowl only out of wood. This piece is my first attempt to carve that shape out. I used a solid block of spalted (partially decomposed) Hickory. The wood has been stabilized and will last several lifetimes. Includes a couple of worm tracks.
It can be used flat or will stand on edge for display. The center is even sized to hold a standard glass votive candle holder.
Finished with over six coats of hand rubbed polyurethane varnish.
It is 5" by 5" and stands 2.5 " tall.
Definitely a one of a Kind.
