Measurements: 2" long x 1 1/4" tall x 3/4" wide

Weight: 17.9 grams of either brass or bronze.

Beautifully sculpted 3 dimensional pig showing well defined musculature, facial features and full curly tail; created to be a match safe (or matchsafe) (**note striker on the underside) also known as a VESTA. The head is hinged to drop open, revealing wooden matches. The hinge works smoothly and the spring closure closes with a satisfying "click" keeping the matches "safe!"

No damage or repair. And unpolished so that the match safe retains its original patina.

It is my opinion, that the hole at the top of the nose of the pig was used to hold a burning match (to protect fingers?). It exactly fits the circumference of the wooden match - remaining stable when in place. Again, this is my opinion as to its usage. You decide.

Guaranteed as vintage; not a repro.

Insurance is NOT included in shipping cost, but is highly recommended,
