Emerald Teardrop Necklace on Delicate 14k Gold Filled Chain

I threaded a petite, deep green emerald teardrop (approximately 8 x 8 mm) onto fine gauge 14k gold filled wire and set it in the center of a delicate, flat-link (approximately 1.4 x 2 mm) gold filled chain. The facets sparkle and glitter in the sunlight, while the gemstone itself is a gorgeous hue of deep, opaque green. The chain is finished with a simple lobster claw style clasp in 14k filled gold.

This is a beautiful yet understated necklace that's versatile enough for everyday wear.

The total length of this necklace is approximately 16 inches.

This necklace can also be made with gold filled or oxidized silver chain; just leave me a note with your preference at checkout. If you would like solid 14k gold chain, please convo me in advance for a price quote; the price of gold changes daily. Want a bigger stone? Convo me for availability.

This necklace looks great layered with one of my longer necklaces (pictured). Try it with one of these:

This necklace is also available with a ruby gemstone:

I use the highest quality filled gold for Gewgaws & Gimcracks jewelry. It has a higher gold content than alternatives like plated gold and vermeil.

Gold plating uses an electrostatic process to deposit a thin layer of gold over base metal like brass or copper. Because the gold layer is so thin, it is easily scratched and tends to tarnish quickly, so I don't recommend it for everyday wear (especially if you have metal allergies or sensitivities).

Gold vermeil is a more expensive version of gold plating; it involves a thin layer of gold over sterling silver. As with plated gold, vermeil is easily scratched and abraded, and tends to tarnish with regular wear.

Filled gold (also called ‘gold overlay’ or ‘rolled gold plated’) involves multiple layers of gold that are bonded mechanically to a base metal. It is stronger and more tarnish resistant than vermeil or plated gold. If you don't want to pay for solid gold, gold filled jewelry is the best alternative for pieces you wear often.
