Vintage kitsch Japanese koala pencil sharpener

Japanese koalas? I don't think so, but this strange little fellow has an impish smile as he clings to a tree trunk. He is quite old possibly older than 1950s, and the goldish, silver coating is wearing off. I like the way it has worn off his nose (koala's noses are black in fact).

He is 1 3/8" (3.5cm) wide at the base and 1 7/8" (4.5cm) tall. He is made from some kind of alloy that has been coated in a silvery gold or is it goldish silver? Depends on the light ! The base says 'Koala" which is handy and one part of the base has been bent. The blade is nice and sharp.

This little fellow is a collectible for those who love Koalas, pencil sharpeners or japanese kitsch!
