This is an etched porcelain tumbler. The exterior has a beautiful etched pattern which gives the drinker a wonderful tactile experience while drinking their favorite beverage. One can imagine a nice frosty beer, iced tea, smoothie, hot toddy or what have you filling this tumbler right to the rim. This beer vessel was thrown on the wheel and fired in an electric kiln. The exterior surface has a pattern etched into it and underglaze stain gathers in the recessed part of the etching and is darker there. It was decorated using a shellac resist painted with a small brush over the surface of the exterior. The shellac is a resist and after it dried a wet sponge was used to "etch" out the un-shellacked areas. For a more extensive description of this technique, you can go to http://jimgottuso.wordpress.com and click on the article in the right column that was recently in Pottery Making Illustrated magazine. The interior and exterior are glazed with a white glaze. Dishwasher and microwave safe, LEAD FREE glaze. It's dimensions are 3.5 inches in diameter and 5.25 inches tall. It will hold 16 ounces of your favorite brew comfortably.
