Angels are immortal, so this one began his second life some times ago.

The story behind the piece ...
Here is a cherub (also called putti or angel) which might have been carved in the early 1800s.
It was probably initially part of a bigger carved coral piece since his neck shows some old traces of breaking (visible on photo).
Such a beautiful angel face could not end up this way ...
It is probably the reason why it was mounted in the years 50s-70s with gold plated silver setting, both wearable as a brooch and a pendant.
What I find very clever is the prong setting both with leaves and the red coral beads finishing which allow the cherub to be worn with a coral necklace of any color, salmon or red.

If you search "Raphael angel Sistine Chapel" on Google, you will find angels that might have inspired the artist who carved this angel face ; "he" looks so much like them !
Mediterranean coral was worked at Torre del Greco coral center in Italy, and commonly bought in the XIX century - Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian periods - by the wealthy British tourists on their "Grand Tour" to Europe.

What is it made of :
- a very well hand carved coral cameo portait of a cherub, Raphael-inspired face,
- gold plated on silver setting, C clasp and a bail.

Color : deep rich salmon with red beads ending the prongs, very desirable color, no white spot on coral, no pits, no flaws (photos taken outdoor to appreciate the color).
Setting : gold plated on silver.
- size : 3 X 2 cm
- weight 8,4 grams

Condition :
- the coral angel face is in perfect condition, nose and chin still no trace of use, a perfectly well carved delicate face with wings and lots of hair on,
- the gold plated silver setting shows absolutly no traces of wear, I guess it has never been worn since its mounting in the years 50s -70s,
- prongs made of both leaves with delicate details and prongs finished with a red coral bead
- safe C clasp works perfectly

Wear it : as a brooch matched with a coral necklace of salmon or red color, or as a pendant on silver or gold chain for a more precious look.
Taking care of coral consists in gently rubbing it periodically with very few olive or almond oil on finger. Nothing else.

Not only beautiful to see, but beautiful when worn, a rare piece you will love to wear, glad to show, keep for you forever or offer to someone you love ... if you are fond of coral or cameo, or unusual jewelry, are you?
