This listing is for a very old traditional brass oil lamp. It has a rare design which has two birds figurine, one in the middle and the other at the top. It was supposed to be used during morning or evening prayers in the temple. As you can see in the pictures, it has two opposite small holes at top rim which it appears are to hang the lamp and the metal area at behind of the bird at the top is for holding it in your hand while offering prayers.
The signs of aging, dents, scratches etc. are visible all over the surface which narrate it's journey through the times. Due to prolonged use and heat, the top part has slightly bent forward as can be seen in images. It has patina, dust and dirt etc. which has deposited over a period of time to form layers all over it. I have just removed the surface dirt to take pictures without making any effort to clean it so that it retains it's character & charm.
It measures approx. 108 mm or 4.25 inches in height, 120 mm or 4.7 inches across in diameter at the top along the line of bird & flick portion end, 94 mm or 3.7 inches across in diameter at the top on the other two edges (near the hole on opposite sides). The diameter at the base is approx. 70 mm or 2.75 inches. It weighs approx. 275 gms.
A perfect addition to your vintage collection.
