This is one of our most popular pieces!
This little jar was thrown on the wheel. It is about 5 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter.

After it was bisque fired, it was glazed with a wonderfully rich turquoise crackle glaze.
Steve makes this glaze . The lid was left unglazed.

The vessel is then placed in a specially built kiln and heated until the glaze has melted. Still glowing with intense heat, it is removed from the kiln. This thermal shock causes the glaze to crackle.

After removal from the kiln, it is placed into a container of sawdust. The sawdust ignites and produces a smoky atmosphere where carbon is absorbed into the unglazed clay and the crackled glaze.

Each piece has its own distinct crackle pattern and is unique in the way the carbon darkens the clay.

A hand sculpted bird was attached to the lid. No molds were used! Sue makes each little bird one at a time by hand.

A charm of carefully chosen embellishments was added. This charm features 2 small beach stones.

There are 3 felt pads on the bottom of the jar to protect your furniture.

Perfect to hold small treasures or to be displayed as a treasure itself!

If you want to send this bird jar as a gift we will wrap it for you in colorful tissue paper and tie a ribbon around it.
We are also happy to include a personal message from you.
