This is a contemporary fiber art sculpture by me, Rachel Hunnicutt. It was handcrafted with soft, high quality, organic cotton yarn in shades of green and the forms were inspired by the moss and lichen I see when I hike at Oak Mountain State Park here in Alabama.

This piece is part of an ongoing series inspired by natural organic shapes such as barnacles, sea coral, lichen, and seed pods. I used a gorgeous, curvy, secondhand wood plaque as a base, coating it with several layers of apple green paint. Then I crocheted each individual piece with a crochet hook and soft, organic cotton yarn. Each piece was carefully arranged and glued onto the base... I left a little space a the lower right corner to make it appear that the "lichen and moss" was slowly growing and taking over the wood base. The process of making each piece is a bit time consuming, but it becomes a meditation as I crochet each part of the project.

Much love and many good thoughts go into each piece I make. It is so important to me that my work is original and includes special details - I hope you enjoy it!

This piece is signed and ready to hang. The plaque has its original metal tooth hanger attached to the back.

Measures approximately 10 x 12 inches (25 x 30 cm).

The wood base is gorgeous with really cool wavy edges. Because this part of the piece is second hand there may be small imperfections present. The paint does a good job of hiding flaws, but they may exist.

These pieces are stunning when grouped together, so check out my other art for sale:
