This brass box is very well made. The lid has a stop on the back side to prevent it from opening too far, the front has a very heavy lockable latch, and the top has a beautifully embossed/stamped copper emblem near the handle. The emblem reads "1762 New Bedford" with a wonderful picture of a three mast ship on water; presumably one of Columbus' ships. Though the lid is a little out of kilter this piece is in good vintage condition.
