You can see ALL of our AMAZING GOGGLES and SPECTACLES here:

We immediately fell in love with this gorgeous pair of Steampunk goggles created from a ressurected pair of European vintage driving goggles. This pair was imported from England. We do not know the manufacturer but hope to find more goggles as beautiful as these. This pair comes with removable double magnifier loops for an over-the-top Steampunk look. Some people choose to attach the magnifying loupes permanently, but we'll leave this up to you.

The design of these goggles differs greatly from vintage goggles manufactured here in the U.S. The first thing I noticed is that the glasses are very lightweight. Although these are not true wire rim glasses, they are nearly as lightweight. The frames are created from a pewter colored wire of thick tubular design. The frames have enough give to prevent breakage in the event of a mishap, but they are very, very strong. This design also lends itself to nice graceful curves that flow from one element to the next. It reminds me somewhat of the lead used to create stained glass windows. The soft, pewtery luster is very alluring.

Also unlike their American bretheren, the lenses are smoke-tinted instead of our traditional green. The glass is not nearly as thick, which also helps keep this pair nice and light. The leather is exceptional quality as you would expect from the U.K., and the earpieces are even more amazing than the frames. They are made from a tubular wire that is very rigid where they are attached to the frames and they continue to be rigid until they have passed through the leather loop of the side shields, then the same piece of wire becomes incredibly flexible and springy. They bounce back to shape no matter what you do to them and they wrap around your ears so effortlessly and comfortably that you don't even know you're wearing them. I have to say that I love these goggles.

The lenses of these beauties are in nearly-new condition. There are three tiny nicks in the rim of the left lens where the glass meets the frames, and there is also one miniscule hairline scratch in the same lens - perhaps an eigth of an inch long, but it is such a surface scratch that I was unable to detect any sign of it when trying to feel it with my fingernail. It is a non-issue. The right lens has what appears to be a tiny air bubble in the glass also right at the edge near the nose bridge. Aside from that, the lenses on these specs is breath-taking. They are mirror smooth without even the typical surface scuffs that you would see in a 100 year old pair of goggles even if they weren't used, but just from being moved around. This is rare smoke tinted glass in near mint condition.

The frames on these glasses are in excellent condition as well. This type of metal and finish does not seem to lend itself to any kind of corrosion. The amount of luster varies in different areas, but the color is consistent and is free of any pitting, corrosion or discoloration. Considering the age of these glasses, I would give the frames a 9 out of 10.

The leather side shields are in extraordinary condition for their age. They are a tribute to the quality of the tanning process that was given to such a small rectangle of leather back when quality was of primary importance. The leather is a deliciously rich chestnut brown and very soft and supple, with no cracking or tears of any kind. There are creases, of course, where the leather folds when the earpieces are closed, but the leather has the look and feel of a coveted and perfectly broken in saddle.

The earpieces, as mentioned above, are very enjoyable. They are straight and strong and have held their original shape because the spring back to their original shape regardless of how you bend or twist them. So they will continue to hold their shape also, and I don't believe it would be possible to break them. This is a really fantastic design. They have some barely noticeable dark spots here and there, but overall they share the same kind of pewter luster as do the frames. They also are amazingly comfortable - put these goggles on and you will forget that you're wearing them.

This is an exceptionally high quality and beautiful pair of goggles that are in astounding condition for being nearly 100 years old. As stated, this pair was imported from England and this is the only pair of this design that we have ever seen. Perhaps we will find others, but right now this is the only pair we have and may be the only pair we will ever have. If you have been hungering for a pair of Steampunk goggles that will truly satisfy, this is a pair you will want to be buried with.

Please remember, these goggles feature professional frames and the lenses can be removed and replaced with custom prescription lenses or lenses with a different tint by any reputable optician.

The goggles measure approximately 135mm wide from hinge to hinge and the lenses measure approximately 51mm high, including the frames - please consider the dimensions when selecting any pair of goggles, and if you have a question please don't hesitate to ask.
