Often mistaken for antelope, Pronghorn are not closely related to those far more familiar African plain dwellers. In fact, they are so entirely different from other hoofed beasties that they are the only members of the family Antelocapridae. Once an endangered species, today, there are more than a million Pronghorn in North America. Here endeth today’s lesson.

This trophy is in good condition, with only minor shedding. There’s a metal hook on the back for easy hanging.

Chances are, you adore animals as much as the rest of us. But don’t feel too bad for this particular specimen. From his new vantage point high above the mantle—he’ll be the one looking down on you.

And, at your next cocktail party, you’ll have something to say to that know-it-all neighbor. No Cecil, I’m sorry, it’s actually not a gazelle. Gazelle have longer horns.
