Another one of those pulp fiction twofer books! On one side is the story My Private Hangman, by Norman Herries, and if you turn it over, you discover Prowl Cop, by Gregory Jones. This book was published in 1956 by Ace Double Novel Books.

And what cover artwork we have here! You get your choice of a leggy dame adjusting her nylons while in the background, some nervous-looking schlep is being menaced by the gut of a fat guy who looks like Big Daddy in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." On the other side you get a very buxom blonde staring up in horror at a cop who had a nightstick clutched in one paw and is doing some sort of grabby-hands gesture with the other.

Regretfully, the first 54 pages of Prowl Cop are missing from this book. You could probably dive right into the story and pick up the plot line with great ease, but I want to make it very clear that there are pages missing in this book.

The writing in My Private Hangman is hilarous. It almost seems like the author was competing in a contest to write stereotypically bad pulp fiction. It is absolutely priceless, and if a party ever started to get boring, you could pick up this book and randomly read snippets out loud. Much hilarity will ensue.

This book is relatively rare, and even in the semi-incomplete state that it is in, it's still a great addition to any pulp collection.

In additon to the missing pages discussed above, there is age-related tanning to the cheap pulp paper. The cover shows rubbing at the edges and tips, with creasing on the Prowl Cop cover. The cover of My Private Hangman is in good condition. There are no inscriptions, other marks or rips to the interior.

My Private Hangman and Prowl Cop - 2 pulp fiction novels in one book - 1956 - kitsch - great covers
