The Thames Embankment,

Published by J. J. Keliher & Co., London, 1897
Photo by The London Stereoscopic Company

This rare antique typogravure print (copper relief print) comes from an old publication entitled "London 1897". There is little information available about the publishers, J.J. Keliher and I have not been able to discover another copy of this book. Neither is it listed in the British Library Catalogue. The second scan shows the somewhat worn and tatty cover.

Although well-thumbed, the print is in reasonable condition and would look nice framed.

The wording below the print reads as follows:
"A noble thoroughfare, scarcely appreciated by Londoners at its true worth. the buildings here shown are (on the left) the eastern extremity of Somerset House, the London School Board Offices, the Temple, and St. Paul's in the distance."

It's interesting to see that the road along the embankment looks like a dirt track and the little traffic there is, is of the 'horse and cart' variety!

Approximate print dimensions, not counting title text: 20 x 15.5 cm OR 8 x 6 inches.
Verso: Blank

Posted in a board-backed envelope for protection.
