This cast iron windmill weight is a piece of Americana that is starting to disappear. They are very rare and hard to find. This one was made for the L 10 windmill to be used as a counterbalance to prevent the windmill from tipping over. You could see these used on farms throughout the US to pump water for the farms. Today they’re just absolutely classic folk art collectibles. I have see them mounted in wood or metal stands and decorating the kitchen.

Most windmill weights were in the shape of animals like our rooster here. This one is made by the Elgin Wind Power Company in Elgin, Illinois and they were known for their rooster shapes. This is in the condition that we found it. There is one of the tail feather tips missing.

This is 9" tall by 10" tall and is made out of cast iron so it is very heavy.
