Hand carved Dala Horse (Dalahäst) made by Swedes in South Florida.

♥ Your final wooden Dala horse will be very similar to, but will differ from the pictures in the listing, as each one is one-of-a-kind, hand-made. Cut from different trees, they understandably have unique features, color variations, marks, knots and wood grain patterns.

Upon your purchase, expect a message from us with a photo of your unique horse, so you can confirm you approve of your horse's individual characteristics.

♥ Material: pine
♥ SIZE: H: ~6" / 15cm (from toe to ear tip); W: ~5.5" / 14cm (from nose to behind); D: ~1.5" / 4cm (width of chest area)
♥ Raw wood, no finish (you can apply oil, varnish, paint should you so desire - feel free to ask us for finishing tips!)
♥ Can be a "DIY" project – paint your own Dala Horse designs on it! Or enjoy the natural beauty of the wood grain as is

♥ If you're interested in multiples of this size and style, feel free to shoot me a message and ask if we have the quantity you want, we might have anywhere from 5-20 similars lying around that just need to be sanded up a bit.

♥ HOW WE MAKE IT: The silhouette of the Dalahäst is first traced on a piece of paper, then transferred to a piece of wood. The silhouette is then cut out with a band saw, and the final shape is carved by hand with various hand-made carving tools. Sanding, prepping, and oiling/painting is also done by hand.

♥ HISTORY: Originally, the traditional Dala horse was mainly a toy for children, but was also used as a form of currency. This stubby nosed little horse has become a token of goodwill and exemplifies Scandinavian frugality and dexterity and is recognized as an unofficial symbol of Sweden throughout Swedish-America.

We are happily carrying on the tradition of our ancestors.
