This is a gorgeous dark green suede handbag from the 1970s by vintage handbag designer Ruth Saltz. Named the 'Cougar Cat-Pack", this bag features her signature "exotic" cougar head in goldtone on the front and an awesome chunky goldtone chain for carrying. This bag is absolutely timeless and will undoubtedly add a super chic, classic touch to any outfit.

(Note...The dark green suede has minimal wear (see condition below) but the nap is brushed different ways in the photo making it look like it has more wear than it really does. Also, the color is most like photo 1.)

Always an innovator, Ruth Saltz believed in the functionality of a handbag, not just in its beauty. For example ...

+ This handbag is made with a diamond-shaped metal frame that allows for full and easy access to the inside contents. Stays open until you're ready to close it.

+ For versatility, the chunky, goldtone chain strap is adjustable. It can be extended to its full, single length to sling over the shoulder or shortened by doubling to be carried by hand or the elbow.

+ Saltz's signature adornment, the cougar head, served a function as well. Just pull the head on one side and the sturdy knob-tail on the other to open the bag.

NOTE ... I also have this purse available in black patent leather (please inquire).

+ Diamond-shaped goldtone metal frame.
+ "Exotic" signature cougar head and "knob-tail" for opening and closing the bag.
+ Chunky goldtone chain strap for slinging over the shoulder or for doubling to carry by the hand.
+ Four small pleats on the bottom (2 on each side) offer more room and shape when filled.
+ From the 1970s.

+ Pristine interior. Doesn't look used.
+ Lined in red moiré rayon taffeta fabric.
+ One open pocket of matching red moiré taffeta...has a few pinpricks where price tag was attached that probably can be smoothed out.
+ Ruth Saltz, the designer's name, is printed in gold on the lining.

Measures ... 8.25" x 9.5" ( x 24.1cm)

+ Very good condition with minimal wear to the suede. (Wear looks considerably bad in the photos due to bright sunlight and nap going in different ways.)
+ There may be some loss of color to the goldtone finish on the cougar head, but it's hard to tell due to reflections. No flakes.
+ One small spot on the back of the bag is a bit darker. Really blends in with the suede's nap and is difficult to see. A suede brush will most likely remove it.

About the Designer
Ruth Saltz, whose husband owned Saber Handbags, a fashion accessories company in NYC, was a creative type who started her career as a painter. Sometime in the 1950s, her husband, Sam, asked for her help redecorating his showrooms. This eventually led to Ruth designing handbags for her husband's company, where she ultimately became the firm's creative visionary. Throughout the late 1950’s and 60’s, Ruth and Sam were at the top of the accessories industry. Ruth began to rebel against the smooth, boring framed handbags that were popular then, so she went to Italy to work with leather tanneries where they custom created fine leathers and suedes for her. In the early 1970s, Ruth and Sam created the 'Ruth Saltz Designs' label which remained successful until the company closed in the late 80”s. Throughout her career, Ruth was a fashion forward innovator, always finding ways to make her handbags practical to use as well as fashionable. Interestingly, as a frontrunner in her industry, she was the creator of the first signature lining, with an all over "autograph" print , that has become almost standard practice in the world of fashion today.

Frequently asked questions about AngelGrace

The best way to determine which belt size you wear is to measure a current belt that fits you well. The next best way to determine your correct size is to run a tape measure through your belt loops while wearing the pants. Please refer to the detailed instructions that are in all belt listings.
No problem. This happens sometimes. You are welcome to return the belt in exchange for a new one or return for a refund. I've found it's easier on my bookkeeping and quicker for you to get the correct size if you place a separate order for the correct size. When you return the unwanted belt to me (contact me for my address; USPS First Class is fine), I will issue a refund (less original shipping costs) when it's received back in its original, unused, undamaged condition and with the belt keeper/loop still attached as I can't re-sell it this little piece is lost.
