When I first saw this set, it screamed, "Victorian!" but it was actually manufactured in the 1950s, which surprised me; it certainly still held to Victorian design and evoked the period magnificently. This porcelain tazza and underplate could be used separately for serving items on a table, or could be paired as a stunning centerpiece, whether filled with food or flowers, candy or seasonal decorations.

The tazza measures 5.5" high and is 7.5" in diameter. The underplate is 11" in diameter. Both pieces have reticulated edges, also called a "ribbon edge" in Victorian ware, since ribbons were often woven through these types of edging. Gorgeous pink and red green-leafed roses wreath each piece. To add further sparkle and depth, gold edging highlights the inside and outside parts of the reticulation.

There is a bit of wear to the gold edging on the tazza, but there is no other damage to either piece that I can find. The tazza base connects to the top with a nut and bolt system and a cork spacer, typical for the Schumann company. I will not disconnect it in packing so as not to disturb the piece in any way or damage the cork. Both pieces are signed: "Schumann Arzberg Germany, E&R, Melrose, Est. 1886" and are numbered pieces.

This is a spectacular set!
