I’d love to know the story behind this homemade brooch. The dark color suggests it may have been made as a piece of mourning jewelry, or perhaps it was worn as a hat embellishment.

The pin features 8 berry or flower clusters fashioned from faceted black glass beads and floral wire. It has a safety pin fastener on the back. It appears to be pretty old, my guess is from the 1920s, but it could be older.

The brooch is fairly large, measuring about 5” tall. Each cluster is about 7/8” across. The stems can be bent so you can “arrange” the clusters however you’d like. The condition is as shown, with a little bit of rust on the safety pin and on the wire at the tips of some bead clusters. There’s a length of raw wires at the bottom which can be trimmed or bent under if you prefer. One stem has a little bit of what appears to be black electrical tape wrapped around it. This also appears to be pretty old. As is often the case with folk art, the charm lies in the imperfections.

This would be a great Halloween accessory, or would also look good on a hat or winter coat.

Combined Shipping: I’m happy to ship multiple purchases together to lower shipping costs, but I don’t pre-enter a combined amount as I prefer to figure it based on packed weight (it’s usually cheaper that way).
