Full of color and symbolism, I created this bracelet for Dia de los Muertos - a time for loved ones who have passed on to return home to enjoy the things they once enjoyed in life. Charms include two dancing calacas, a sugar skull, a calaca in a coffin, and a skull decorated with flowers. The clasp has Mexican Catholic influence, symbolizing the Sacred Heart of Christ.

Thinking about the colors of the celebration, I used orange (marigolds), pink (love), and purple (pain.) I used crackled glass beads, Swarovsky crystals, colored freshwater pearls, fish bones, and Czech glass bell flowers to decorate this bracelet. While the beads are strung on jeweler's wire, a chain is woven throughout the bracelet to add a gothic look.

The bracelet measures about 7 inches long and arrives ready for gift giving in a brown kraft box. I hope it finds its way to someone who will enjoy it!

Please enjoy a recipe I found for Fruit Atole, sometimes incorporated into celebrations, depending upon location. You can find it below.

Fruit Atole (Hot drink made from corn starch and fruit.)

10 cups milk

1/2 lb. sugar

2 lb. of any kind of fruit

1 stick of cinnamon

1/8 tsp. baking soda

1 cup corn starch

Wash, cut, and boil the fruit in water until it is soft. Drain and transfer to a blender. In a saucepan, combine the strained fruit, milk, sugar, and baking soda. Dissolve the corn starch in some water and combine it with the rest of the ingredients. Set the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Add sugar to taste before mixture begins to boil. Remove, let cool, and drink.
