As is almost always the case with my subjects, this woman appeared as I was sculpting the face - which is always where I begin when I do people. There was a hint of age, so I enhanced that, then she evolved into an old Navajo woman. My in-laws had just returned from a trip to Arizona, where I spent most of my childhood, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. She is a bit softer then many of my pieces, and even though I've gone back to her many times, she seems right as she is. I have her seated on a small "stump" which can come with her if the buyer would like it. She is a seated piece, and needs something on which to perch, and this seems to suit her. I've also removed her wrap, which was originally draped over her shoulders. She is about 9 1/2" tall, seated.
