This is a small actual single whole page cut out from a damaged copy of a 1920s reprint of a 1916 school textbook, "The Young and Field Advanced Literary Reader, Part One", by Ella Flagg Young and Walter Taylor Field. The discarded book had done many decades of service in a busy urban school library, and I rescued as many of the handsome portraits as I could (but not those that had been defaced by bored students!). The illustrator is not credited.

Black-and-white portrait vignette of Benjamin Franklin (1706 - 1790).

Size: Page is approximately 7.25 x 5 inches.

Condition: Noticeable wear -- small brown stain at top right corner. Overall age-tanning. Thin paper. The reverse is text.

This vintage book illustration would look very distinguished when matted and framed. Unique gift for Ben's fans! Also suitable for collage or other art project.

From Wikipedia:
"Franklin was foundational in defining the American ethos as a marriage of the practical and democratic values of thrift, hard work, education, community spirit, self-governing institutions, and opposition to authoritarianism both political and religious, with the scientific and tolerant values of the Enlightenment. . . .

"His colorful life and legacy of scientific and political achievement, and status as one of America's most influential Founding Fathers, have seen Franklin honored on coinage and money; warships; the names of many towns, counties, educational institutions, namesakes, and companies; and more than two centuries after his death, countless cultural references."
