Three sweet faced, although admittedly bored looking, girls pose for tintype portraits.

The first shows a girl with long crimped or wavy long hair tied back with a bow. Her dress is striped and there is another bow at her throat. Her cheeks have been hand colored to be rosy. Image is a little dark, and has a few dings and some wear to the surface. mostly clean. Approx 3.5 by 2.5 inches.

The second girl has kinky hair, worn up and back, and lots of freckles. She also has rosy hand colored cheeks. Her dress is dark and has a brocade lapel or collar, and she has a pretty bow at her throat with a jeweled pin. Surface damage and soil, and a few fine scratches. Approx 3.5 by 2.5 inches.

The last girl is a little plain, with fine straight hair pulled back, with a bow on her head. Her dress is calico, and she has a bow at her throat. Good exposure, with some mild surface damage. Approx 3.5 by 2.5 inches.

These are beautiful artifacts from an earlier time. Lovely for collection or as part of a project or crafts. Or you could start documenting a family history that is a lot more interesting than your real family history!

What is a tintype? An early photograph, from the last half of the 1800s. Light sensitive emulsion coating a thin piece of metal. Unlike modern photographic processes, this process did not create a negative, meaning that every tintype is one of a kind, completely unique! Tintypes are an important part of photographic history - their relative inexpensiveness and sturdiness made them available to a wider audience, making photography the most democratic of art processes!
