Chunky knit shrug shawl collar long wide sleeves one size fits most medium to extra large plus art sweater "Heather mist"

Handmade chunky knit shrug deep shawl collar long sleeved wrap sweater with ample cuff width one size fits most medium to extra large plus women wearable art. In dove and silvery greys with a range of light to dark lilac and heather colour accent bands. The ultra-long arms are intended to have the cuffs rolled up---even on a large framed woman.

This sweater is constructed like a shrug but with super deep shawl collar and long wide arms/cuffs. The relaxed chunky knit stitches have a laxity that stretches at the back; the shawl collar could be pinned with a shawl pin in front on smaller women or left to relax in front of the shoulders as shown.

The arms are long and cuffs are intended to be rolled up even on large-sized women unless you like the long-armed look. This sweater-shrug fits me/Lynn (a large-boned, large-sized woman), and might be a bit too engulfing for a small-framed medium body unless you like a super-loose fit. The chunky stitches have an inherent laxity which makes this a malleable garment rather than a sweater with inherently invariant form.

If you like precision, you might not enjoy these latest knit-works of mine which focus on organic shapes which I create by using a tape measure rather than a specific pattern. Their emphasis on texture and colour-play cast them into the realm of art-wear. When you're not wearing it---it would be stunning on your wall as an accent piece---just insert a pole through the sleeves and hang.

PLEASE NOTE: I (Lynn) do not accept custom requests (I can't keep up with my own whims plus I've made a lifestyle decision to avoid deadlines :=)), so what you see listed is what is all that is currently available, though I will be adding new items as I create them.

Please also note that our shipping quotes for our OOAK Fibre Art Fashions (and for original paintings) are for airmail (for all other items in our store the shipping quotes are for surface/sea) .

Measurements are approximate due to the inherent stretch in this chunky knit fabric. The following dimensions were made with the garment laying flat (i.e. supported on a flat surface with minimal stretching).

Cuff edge to cuff edge (unrolled cuffs): 60" (152.5 cm)

Cuffs: 6" (15.5 cm.) or 12"/30.5cm.;arm width: 8" (20.5 cm.) i.e. 16" (41 cm.) around

Width: 25" ( 63.5 cm.) from underarm to underarm when laid flat doubled over--i.e. a total circumference of 50" (127 cm.)
Height: 23" (58.5 cm.) when laid flat doubled over --including 6"/15.5 cm. band of knit rib which circles the shrug forming both shawl collar and waistband. Hence depth at mid back is twice this height---i.e. 46" (117 cm.) with the collar standing up.

This item should be washed by hand, please, using mild soap, and lukewarm water and then rinsing and squeezing gently between cupped hands (please do not wring). Remove excess moisture by rolling in a fluffy towel, then lay flat to dry away from direct heat.

(Lynn's description of her creative process): After almost 4 years of selling my knit and crochet wearables on Etsy, I've come to this point of wanting to focus on creating items using yarn or richly coloured/textured fabrics as a palette, and the geometric layout design of each item I now think of my canvas/support. Maybe this delving into the abstractions possible with a fibre palette will help me move into abstraction in painting (as you'll see if you peruse my paintings I'm staunchly a realist in that department :

In starting each sweater, I go to my studio with its row of yarn colour bins and I gather up a large project bag of assorted yarns that I select in daylight to be sure they are congenial together. Each project feels like a new adventure when I start---I rarely have any preconception of how the final pattern will emerge. Each colour transition is intuitive as I work with the needles and I experience deep pleasure at seeing how the colour gradients emerge.

The extreme chunky stitch (knit on my largest diameter needles) requires several strands of yarn and this multi-stranding permits the play in colour gradients that are evident in these "art sweaters" in which colour and/or texture are optimized. Each sweater design emerges as a rich but subtle abstract of colour and/or texture in luxuriantly soft and specialty yarns.
