I created this rainbow design to help me recover from being ill. I see it as a symbol of love and hope. The slow, repetitive process of stitching helps to quiet my anxious mind and get me in a positive state for healing.

THE PATTERN
The pattern will walk you through the basics of stitching blackwork geometric patterns. As well as providing an introduction to shading within a blackwork design to create the heart inside the rainbow.

WHO IT’S FOR
Some previous cross stitching or embroidery experience would be beneficial, but it’s not required as I’ve written the instructions for all levels of experience. If you’ve never stitched blackwork before, this would be a great introduction. Plus I'm just a message away if you need any help.

NOT HEARD OF BLACKWORK BEFORE?
It’s a counted thread embroidery technique, meaning you use a fabric that has regularly spaced holes for you to stitch in. You can use the same fabrics that you would for cross stitching.

Blackwork uses easy stitches to create geometric patterns from which your overall image is created. Using different patterns and thicknesses of thread allows you to create various tones and textures, with the possibility for dramatic results!

I love the blackwork embroidery technique and despite what the name might suggest, it doesn’t have to be stitched with black thread!

WHAT’S INCLUDED
- Pattern file to print on A4 or US Letter paper
- 12 page instruction booklet covering everything you need to stitch the design:
-- Supplies and materials needed
-- Starting and finishing your threads
-- Stitching the blackwork patterns
-- Tips for getting the best finish
-- Transferring the design
-- Step by step instructions and photos of stitching the rainbow

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Evenweave fabric, stranded cottons, tapestry needle, embroidery hoop and scissors (in the photos, the embroidery is within an 8 inch hoop), water erasable pen. The instructions include the specific DMC stranded cottons I used.

While I've done a lot of needlework crafts like sewing and cross stitching, this was my first embroidery. I loved it! It was easy to pick up again after being put away, and thanks to the clear directions I was confident with every stitch - and it turned out so well! The walrus is SO CUTE. The kit is great for a beginner embroider like me, and the finished product makes a great gift. I can't wait to try another design.

A beautifully packaged item that I bought as a gift for a crafty friend. Alex's communication was very informative, the delivery was fast and the polar bear embroidery kit is thoughtfully packed with eco-friendly packaging. I would definitely buy from Alex again. Her embroidery designs are lovely!
