Amazing find! Museum quality yukinko kasuri cotton intended for obi.
Yukinko refers to the weave pattern. Kasuri is the Japanese word for ikat.

This dates back to Edo / Meiji era (1800s).

The cotton was hand spun and hand loomed. Panels are hand sewn together.

The black cotton thread was dyed with all natural, botanical indigo.

It is made up of two layers. The top layer is 3 panels of kasuri and 2 small plain panels. (90+% kasuri)

The bottom layer is one long piece of plain cotton.

Both layers are tacked together with a baste stitch all the way down the center. The edges have not been sewn.

There are some brown stains. Some on the plain panel of the top piece. (see photo) Also, there are some on the kasuri (see photo). Other than the stains you can see in the photos, the condition is excellent.

The plain cotton is not stained at all, maybe some light differences in colour as it is undyed or due to age.

FULL LENGTH: 354cm x 33cm (139.3" x 12.9").
There are two full lengths of fabric , so actually it is double: 708cm x 33cm (278.7" x 12.9").
