The "Lozen Necklace" is one in my series of "woman warrior necklaces," inspired by Native American breast plates, which were originally worn for physical and spiritual protection in hunting and in battle. This one is named after a Native American warrior woman of the Chiricahua Apache peoples. "Lozen was the sister of mighty Apache war leader Victorio, and the most famous of the Apache War Women. Lozen was born in a section of New Mexico/Arizona/Northern Mexico known at that time as Apacheria, somewhere in the 1840s. She let it be known at a very early age that she had no interest in learning the women's duties of the tribe, and set out on the warrior's path - taught by her famous brother." (source:http://www.meyna.com/lozen.html) My hope is that this "warrior woman" can serve as a metaphor now, not for bravery in violence, but for standing together in peace and fighting for what we believe in.

This is an exquisite deep blue suede leather necklace made entirely by hand, inspired by Native American breast plates. Neck strap is braided from 4 pieces of finely cut suede which are then woven down the sides of the breast plate and allowed to flow long and free at the bottom. It is made with five sizely chunks of genuine green turquoise, as well as a number of small genuine turquoise accent beads and Native American hairpipe beads. The bottom row of bead work features a fang-shaped piece of white agate in the center. Long fringe pieces at the bottom are adorned with natural-hued pheasant feathers, a claw shaped tiger shell piece, and 3 of 4 ends are finished with recycled spent 22 gauge bullet shell casings. I like the idea of repurposing bullet shells to have something harmless and beautiful emerging from them rather than destructive bullets. Suede is second hand (but in excellent condition) so no animals were harmed in order to make this piece :) Design and craftsmanship by Sunday French Toast :)

This would be an exquisite gift for a lady friend or even as a special present to yourself :) It will come carefully shipped to you so that all of its stones and feathers remain in excellent shape :)
