A beautiful large antique world map on Mercator's Projection, a cylindrical map projection presented by the geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator, in 1569. It became the standard map projection for nautical purposes. This chart of the world was revised by H. Habenicht. According to its description (on the back) it depicts the principal states with their colonies and dependencies.

The lower part of the plate has 3 inset maps: 1. Quickest route of world travel, 2. Official languages of the most important countries and 3) Principal world telegraph lines.

This vintage map of the world is a 102 year old colorful copper engraving. It was published by Justus Perthes in Gotta, Germany in 1914 and published in the French edition of Stieler's Atlas. It has a small description with text in English, French, Spanish and Italian on the back. The map itself is in German.

Size: 18.8 " x 15.5" (48 by 40 cm.)

In excellent condition. High quality paper and bright colors. Colors are bright and paper is high quality. The back is mostly blank, there is a small area printed that doesn't show through.

Sent to you in a flat envelope, folded in two (as issued) protected with a cello sleeve and cardboard.

This is an ORIGINAL, not a reproduction.
