This Bali Buddha in his red beads sits serenely by the roadside as a steady stream of traffic files past in the direction of some holiday adventure on the Island of the Gods.

Please note that the first image is cropped for better presentation when you're looking at the landscape-oriented thumbnails you see when you view my shop page. Please click on the second thumbnail here to see the full image that is being offered as a 5 x 7 print.

This Buddha is actually for sale so has yet to find his final resting place. Hopefully, it will be in a beautiful garden somewhere.

I'm uncertain which mudra (hand gesture) is being performed by this particular incarnation of the great spiritual teacher. If you known and you'd care to enlighten me, I'd really appreciate it.

If you're scrapbooking your Bali vacation photos and find that you need a bit of the extra essence of the island, then this image could be the answer.

Scrapbooking is my way of being in Bali when I can't be there. Working with my photos and the stories that go with them brings it all back.

If you've come away from the island as bewitched by it as me, then add me to your shop favourites and check here for new images that I'll be adding from time to time. Feel free to convo me too, in case I have what you're looking for.

This print features my original photography and will be professionally printed at a digital photography lab on archival photographic paper.

It will be sealed inside an archivally-sound polypropelene bag and shipped in a sturdy cardboard mailer.

BACK STORY
A small speck in the vast Indonesian archipelago, Bali is an island like no other. While Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation state, Bali remains steadfastly Hindu.

But it's a hybrid form of Hinduism that is practised by 90 per cent of the island's 3 million inhabitants. Known as Agama Hindu Dharma, it has been influenced by elements of Buddhism, animism, and even Chinese Confucianism.

Buddhism has been synthesized into the Balinese culture, and is also a major feature of the artistic traditions of the Island of the Gods.

Wander through one of the lush tropical gardens of the hotels and restaurants that abound on this island paradise and you are likely to come across a beautiful Buddha carved out of the soft volcanic stone known as paras.

Buddha is also rendered in beautiful art, wood carvings, silver jewelry and textiles.

“To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.” ~ Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C
