Vintage needlepoint Phoenix, circular Asian influenced design. This extraordinary piece was evidently based on or influenced by Chinese ceramics or textiles. It's 16" across. I found it with a label on the back identifying it as an entry in the third annual Golden Thimble exhibit, its creator being one Robert Goldman. According to Los Angeles Times, the 8th Annual Golden Thimble Exhibit was held in 1985, I have therefore dated this to 1980. The artist has initialed the back "RJG", see last photo. The frame has been put back together, not very well, by me, you can see the mended place in the first and second photos, and the last photo shows the area before mending. I figured this would at least be additional protection in shipping. I think this would be a wonderful central piece in the right environment.
