This single candlestick has a very mysterious past. I've been told it derives from Japan and was used by ladies of the night to signal that they were “open” for business. The large butterfly screen slides in and out to notify her patrons. The piece is made out of brass and has an intricate cut-out pattern in the back. The candlestick does show some wear and is tarnished. This is quite a gem with an interesting past.
