William Golding, The Inheritors, Harvest Book 1955, Paperback Book.

The Inheritors by William Golding,
author of Lord Of The Flies.
This is the Harvest Book Paperback, 1955, HIJ. Harcourt, Bruce & World Inc.
Total of 223 pages.
This is his second novel, from the author of Lord Of The Flies.

Eight Neanderthals encounter another race of beings like themselves, yet strangely different. This new race, Homo sapiens, fascinating in their skills and sophistication, terrifying in their cruelty, sense of guilt, and incipient corruption, spell doom for the more gentle folk whose world they will inherit. It's a reconstruction of the life of these Neanderthals. They gesture and speak simply among themselves, and bury their dead with heartfelt, solemn rituals. They sometimes seem to share thoughts in a near-telepathic way.
