Dark, dramatic, dazzling: this gorgeous antique mourning lithograph is a BIG, arresting piece of 19th-century art for your steampunk home. It's gothic Art Nouveau to the max, festooned with cherubs and lady angels, decorative lettering, birds, flower garlands, an anchor, and more. Very Victorian, very rich and ornate -- this is a super fabulous decor piece that would look at home in a Tim Burton movie. It is poster-sized, and would be a decorative showstopper displayed in an ornate gilt frame. In addition to its magnificent decorative value, this original print is a fascinating and melancholy historical artifact with a personal history: it is a memorial for Anna Mary Jacobs, who died in 1897 according to the hand-written inscription.

This is a very old piece printed on thick, sturdy paper. The colors look like thick, unbroken expanses of ink, with no printing dots; the black parts are fantastically matte black, like a chalkboard. The gold parts have a subtle metallic glitter. I encourage you to click on my photos to see them at full magnification -- the details in this piece are fantastic.

There is some small print at the very bottom margin of the page that is half cropped off; it looks like it might say "Copyright 1900" and "Wm. B. Burton." The frame that is bordered by the two large angels contains a handwritten epitaph (a little smudged) that reads:

Anna Mary Jacobs
Born Sept 13, 1807
Died June 20, 1897
age 89 yrs, 9 mo, 11 days

This is written on a separate little rectangle of black paper that might potentially be removed (and replaced with the name of your choice?).

This unusual and wonderful antique art cannot fail to add a unique je-ne-sais-quoi to your decor! For detailed information on dimensions, condition and shipping, please see below.

{{Dimensions}}

This generously sized piece of art measures just a hair under 20 inches tall, and 15 7/8 inches wide.

{{Condition}}

This piece is in great display condition, but it is an antique and is not free of flaws. The old paper is delicate and somewhat brittle; the piece will have to be shipped flat, because it will not stand up well to being rolled in a poster tube.

The edges of the piece have some tanning and chipping, and the back side of the piece is also discolored/tanned with some "foxing" spots. These are fairly minor issues, because they won't show up when the piece is displayed in a proper frame.

As you can see from my photos, there is some damage along the top edge of the piece. The top left corner has an old repair; from the front side you can see some creasing here. The top center edge has a tear that extends about 4 inches down, and there are several other shorter tears. This area would greatly benefit from some gentle conservation/restoration work. Even so, this is a really lovely and great-looking item.

{{Shipping}}

I live in Canada, and will be shipping with Canada Post. Because of its fragile antique nature, this picture will need to be shipped flat between two sheets of sturdy poster board. It is too large to be sent by letter mail. Unfortunately, this means that shipping will be pricier. I'm not out to make a profit on shipping fees, though, and will happily refund any accidental overcharge; I only charge actual shipping plus a small fee (less than a dollar) to offset the cost of packaging materials).

For shipping to the United States, the least expensive option is Expedited Parcel. The cost will vary depending on your location, but will be somewhere between $21 (to Washington) and $24 (to Florida). This service includes tracking, delivery confirmation and coverage against loss; Canada Post's delivery estimate is 4 to 6 business days. If you would like a more exact price estimate, just send me a convo with your zip code and I would be happy to oblige.

Shipping within Canada by Expedited parcel post will be between $12 and $20, depending on your location. This service includes tracking and delivery confirmation, and I will chip in for the cost of coverage against loss.

The least expensive tracked option for overseas is XPresspost International, which is about $71 for the UK and most other European countries ($73 for Australia). On the bright side, this service is quite fast; Canada Post guarantees a 4-business-day delivery time to most overseas destinations (though this guarantee does not include any time the package might spend in a customs holdup). The added security of a tracking number and insurance mean that you won't have to worry about your purchase.
