This beaded disk has been salvaged from a garment or other piece. Called "Gul i peron", which means "dress flower", disks like this one are used by the Kuchi and other nomadic people in Afghanistan as a design element in their clothing. It might be sewn on to a dress or vest or form the crown of a skull cap. The disk is thick, with thick cardboard in the middle supporting the beadwork.

This one is large and in excellent shape. The glass seed beads are sewn into a circular design with a button in the center. Clumps of beads adorn the outer edges. Gold trim serves as an edging to hold down the clumps of beads.

Belly dancers especially like these and use them in their costumes. Other ideas: sew it on to the back of jean jacket, frame it against a raw, woven fabric, sew it on to a messenger bag... There are lots of uses!
